Live sound is far more than operating a mixing desk. The workshop »Live Sound Reinforcement 101« offers a hands-on introduction to the fundamentals of sound reinforcement and conveys a deeper understanding of the technical processes behind live concerts. The 120-minute session combines theoretical foundations with live demonstrations and practical work on the PA system.
The workshop is aimed at musicians, technicians, producers, and event practitioners with some initial experience in audio who want to deepen their knowledge of live sound.
The session begins with the theoretical foundations of live sound, including electricity and power, the physics of sound, psychoacoustics and room acoustics, and the role of signal flow, microphones, and PA systems. In the practical second part, the workshop moves into hands-on work with the setup, soundcheck, and monitor mix, while also addressing feedback prevention, stage communication, stress management, and the relationship between the engineer and the performer.
Soheil Soheili is a multimedia artist and sound engineer working between live sound, event production, music curation, and education. He worked on stages for experimental and contemporary music in Tehran – at the Tehran Contemporary Music Festival (TCMF), the Contemporary Music Magazine Festival (CMMF), and as house sound engineer at Jazz Cafe Tehran, where he engineered weekly jazz nights and live sessions. Since moving to Berlin in 2023, he has engineered concerts at PAS Berlin, Volksbühne Grüner Salon, and Villa Kuriosum. He is co-founder of aNoise, an independent label for experimental electronic and contemporary classical music operating between Iran and Germany. He has worked as a guest lecturer in the Artist Training programme at Berlin Career College UdK, and more recently as a guest facilitator with Borderless Creatures at Theaterhaus Mitte, contributing to the DIY Music Career Lab.

Live-Sound bedeutet weit mehr, als ein Mischpult zu bedienen. Der Workshop »Live Sound Reinforcement 101« vermittelt praxisnah die Grundlagen der Beschallungstechnik und bietet ein tieferes Verständnis für die technischen Abläufe hinter einem Live-Konzert. In der 120-minütigen Session werden theoretische Grundlagen mit Live-Demonstrationen und praktischer Arbeit an der PA-Anlage kombiniert. Der Workshop richtet sich an Musiker*innen, Tontechniker*innen, Produzent*innen und Veranstaltungspraktiker*innen, die bereits erste Erfahrungen im Audiobereich gesammelt haben und ihr Wissen über Live-Sound vertiefen möchten.
Zu Beginn werden die theoretischen Grundlagen des Live-Sounds behandelt – darunter Elektrizität und Stromversorgung, Schallphysik, Psychoakustik und Raumakustik sowie Signalfluss, Mikrofone und PA-Systeme. Im praktischen Teil arbeiten die Teilnehmenden anschließend direkt an Setup, Soundcheck und Monitormix. Darüber hinaus geht es um den Umgang mit Feedback, Kommunikation auf der Bühne, Stressmanagement sowie die Zusammenarbeit zwischen Tontechniker*in und Künstler*in.
Soheil Soheili ist Multimedia-Künstler und Tontechniker und arbeitet an der Schnittstelle von Live-Sound, Veranstaltungsproduktion, Musikkuration und Bildung. In Teheran war er unter anderem auf Bühnen für experimentelle und zeitgenössische Musik tätig – beim Tehran Contemporary Music Festival (TCMF), dem Contemporary Music Magazine Festival (CMMF) sowie als Haustechniker im Jazz Cafe Tehran, wo er wöchentliche Jazzabende und Live-Sessions betreute. Seit seinem Umzug nach Berlin im Jahr 2023 hat er Konzerte im PAS Berlin, im Grünen Salon der Volksbühne und in der Villa Kuriosum technisch begleitet. Er ist Mitbegründer von aNoise, einem unabhängigen Label für experimentelle elektronische und zeitgenössische klassische Musik, das zwischen dem Iran und Deutschland arbeitet. Darüber hinaus war er Gastdozent im Artist Training Programme des Berlin Career College der UdK und zuletzt als Gast-Workshopleiter bei Borderless Creatures im Theaterhaus Mitte tätig, wo er das DIY Music Career Lab mitgestaltete.
