Learn how seemingly outdated approaches like crate-digging and turntablism can still be a cool source of inspiration nowadays!
In this workshop, DJ illvibe will show how he uses turntables and vinyl records not only as a musical instrument but also as the starting point for music composition and production. Based on his experience producing and playing live, he will explain some of his basic turntable techniques and talk about how sampling and manipulating records are still his biggest inspiration in creating new music – even in the age of plug-ins and sample packs.
Vincent von Schlippenbach started mixing hip-hop in clubs as DJ illvibe at the age of 14 and soon began focussing on the possibilities of using the turntable as a musical instrument. In 1999 he made his first moves in groove-oriented bands such as Seeed and Lychee Lassi while also playing improvisational music with a variety of other musicians. Since 2006 he has been a member of the production trio The Krauts, who combine urban sounds with experimental elements, having produced and written music for acts such as Miss Platnum, Peter Fox, Beatsteaks, Marteria and Dendemann.

In diesem Workshop wird DJ illvibe zeigen, wie er Turntables und Vinyl-Platten nicht nur als Musikinstrument, sondern auch als Ausgangspunkt für Musikkomposition und -produktion verwendet. Basierend auf seinen Erfahrungen beim Produzieren und beim Live-Spielen wird er einige seiner grundlegenden Turntable-Techniken erklären und darüber sprechen, wie Sampling und Manipulation von Schallplatten immer noch die größte Inspiration für ihn sind, um neue Musik zu kreieren – selbst im Zeitalter von Splice und Samplepacks.
Bereits mit vierzehn Jahren begann Vincent von Schlippenbach als DJ illvibe als Hip-Hop DJ in Clubs aufzulegen, fokussierte sich aber bald schon auf die Möglichkeiten, die Turntables als Musikinstrument zu verwenden. 1999 sammelte er erste Erfahrungen in eher Groove-orientierten Bands wie Seeed und Lychee Lassi, parallel dazu spielte er freie, improvisierte Musik mit verschiedenen Musiker*innen. Seit 2006 ist er Mitglied des Produzententrios The Krauts, das urbanen Sound mit experimentellen Elementen kombiniert und u.a. Musik für Künstler wie Miss Platnum, Peter Fox, Beatsteaks, Marteria und Dendemann produziert und geschrieben hat.
