»Pop-Kultur Nachwuchs« returns to Kulturbrauerei from 21-23 August 2019!

»Pop-Kultur Nachwuchs« connects 250 young talents from all over the world with artists of Pop-Kultur’s live programme and other professionals across the fields of economics, politics and music industry. In hands-on workshops and talks these international experts provide personal insights into their work and share their experience on how to live and survive in pop-music-business. This year’s programme includes workshops, classes and talks by CocoRosie, Stephen Morris (Joy Division, New Order), Sophia Kennedy, Mense Reents (Die Goldenen Zitronen) and Zebo Adam (producer Bilderbuch). More mentors will be announced soon.

The complete programme brochure of the previous edition of »Pop-Kultur Nachwuchs« in 2018 can be downloaded here.

»Pop-Kultur Nachwuchs« 2019 is happening from August 21st to 23rd at Kulturbrauerei Berlin. Participants can choose between more than 40 different courses given in either German or English on the first two days of the programme, followed by a networking format on the third day that allows you to meet both artists of the festival’s live programme and insiders of the Berlin music scene. And as the programme invites applications from all over the world, participants can expand their international networks and connect across borders and disciplines.

The applications for Pop-Kultur Nachwuchs 2019 are closed. The next application period opens in April 2020. Applications opened on April 25th and closed on May 31st, 2019. An expert jury will then pick 250 participants for the sought-after spots in the programme. The participation fee of 40 Euros includes drinks, lunch as well as access to Pop-Kultur’s networking area for professionals.

Previous Editions

Last year, an expert jury picked 250 participants out of over 800 applications from across (almost) the entire world. Thanks to a full scholarship provided by the Goethe-Institut, 10 young musicians from the Global South, Middle East and (Central) Asia were invited to Berlin and joined »Pop-Kultur Nachwuchs« to further professionalize their careers and build international networks in the music business.

Over the course of three days, participants learned from influential artists like Lady Bitch Ray giving a feminist rap workshop, producer Henrik Schwarz, who has been commissioned to write an elaborate piece for the parallel festival, New York underground legend Lydia Lunch and Tocotronic and Beatsteaks-producer Moses Schneider, among others. Irmin Schmidt (Can) and Vivien Goldmann opened each day of »Pop-Kultur Nachwuchs« 2018 with a keynote speech.
