Arne Empen: Festival Booking / EN

This workshop offers general input on the topic of festival bookings: What kind of booking concepts can festivals have? What is the timing of the overall booking process and each step along the way? How do these overlap with other realms such as communication, accounting and artist care?

Arne Empen gives an insight into the practical work using the following examples, for which he does bookings: Vogelball, a festival with almost exclusively queer and BIPOC acts, where people come dressed as birds. Habitat, a techno/house festival that, this year, also features punk bands. MS Dockville, a multi-genre indie festival considered to have one of the most scrupulous booking policies in Germany.

Arne books around 200 acts a year, including bands and DJs as well as other performances and non-musical acts. He is also a member of the group Queerpol, which organises a queer event series at the techno club Südpol.
 
 
Dieser Workshop gibt einen allgemeinen Input zum Thema Festivalbooking: Wie können Bookingkonzepte für Festivals aussehen? Wie sind die Timings und Abläufe im Bookingprozess? Wo gibt es Schnittstelle zu anderen Bereichen wie Kommunikation, Accounting oder Artist Relations?

Arne Empen gibt Einblick in die praktische Arbeit am Beispielen folgender Festivals, für die er bereits das Booking übernahm: Vogelball – ein Festival mit fast ausschließlich Queer und BIPoC-Acts, bei dem die Menschen als Vögel verkleidet kommen. Das Techno & House-Festival Habitat, bei dem in diesem Jahr auch Punkbands auftreten. Das Multigenre-Festival MS Dockville, das als Indiefestival mit einem der sorgfältigsten Booking in Deutschland gilt.

Arne bucht so circa 200 Acts pro Jahr, darunter Bands, DJs, Performances und nicht-musikalische Programmpunkte. Darüber hinaus ist er Mitglied der Gruppe Queerpol – eine queere Veranstaltungsreihe im Technoclub Südpol.
